Sheriff wants Makarfi, Jibril to quit, Board of Trustees dissolved

Former PDP national chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff, has asked Senator Ahmed Makarfi to resign as chairman of the caretaker committee.

His call follows Monday’s confidence vote passed on the committee by the Board of Trustees (BoT).

In a statement signed on his behalf by Cairo Ojougbo, his deputy, Sheriff rejected the recommendations of the BoT including reconvening a fresh national convention in Abuja.

The statement, which also sought the immediate reconstitution of the BoT, asked Senator Walid Jibril to resign as Board chairman.

The statement insisted the only condition acceptable to Sheriff was to allow him preside over a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), where the new convention planning committee would be appointed.

“Having deliberated on the reported outcome of the Board of Trustees’ meeting of August 29, 2016, we have resolved to state that the resolutions fell short of the decision reached with the Dickson/Mantu reconciliation committee.

“We completely reject the vote of confidence passed on the illegal caretaker committee, because a committee that has failed twice to successfully organise a convention is a failure. Consequently, we can now confidently inform the general public that well meaning Nigerians have been urging Senator Makarfi to resign to save democracy.”
