Troops arrest suspected killer of Benue monarch

Troops of the joint military operation codenamed Operation Whirl Stroke, on Thursday,  arrested a notorious criminal gang leader known as

Asaaghar Igye, in Zaki Biam, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

Igye is suspected to be linked to the recent killing of the district head of Kundav, Chief Awua Alabar.

Alabar was murdered by gunmen on July 21, 2020 at his residence in Ukum LGA.

It was gathered that troops of Operation Whirl Stroke deployed in Zaki Biam and Jootar on Thursday responded to a distress call from some locals on sighting Igye who was earlier linked to serial attacks and killings in and around Alabar village in the Kundav council ward.

According to one of the locals, who simply identified himself as Donald, as soon as troops were called, they arrived in the area, searched and arrested Igye.

Donald said, “It was a thing of joy for our community today to see one of the suspected killers of our district head arrested.”

When contacted, the Force Commander of OPWS, Maj. Gen. Adeyemi Yekini, said he could not comment on the arrest of the criminal gang leader and referred journalists to the Defence Head.
