Gunmen kill two in fresh Kaduna community attack

Gunmen, in the early hours of Tuesday, invaded Maiginginya village in the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State and killed two persons.

During the attack that occurred around 3am, two villagers were also injured.

The bandits, it was gathered, rode on motorcycles and shot indiscriminately when they got to the village.

The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday.

Aruwan, who identified those killed as Nasiru Yahaya and Isah Bature, also gave the names of the injured as Magaji Goma and Zurkhalaini Alhassan.

“The government was also briefed that the armed bandits in frustration at being denied freedom of action, attacked Maiginginya village in the Igabi Local Government Area around 3am and killed two persons, Nasiru Yahaya and Isah Bature. They also injured the duo of Magaji Goma and Zurkhalaini Alhassan,” Aruwan stated.

The commissioner also said troops foiled an attack by bandits in the early hours of Tuesday on the Zaria-Funtua Road in the Giwa Local Government Area of the state.

This was just as Aruwan disclosed that troops of the Operation Thunder Strike on Monday repelled attacks by bandits on the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.

He said many of the bandits escaped with gunshot wounds, adding that a driver was hit by a fleeing bandit, while two buses ran into the ditch and injured some of the passengers.

The injured passengers, the commissioner added, were rushed to hospital by security operatives.

The statement read in part, “The Kaduna State Government has been informed that troops of the Operation Thunder Strike late on Monday successfully repelled bandits on the Kaduna-Abuja Road.

“The bandits appeared along the pipeline area of Kakau General in an attempt to strike when troops engaged and repelled them with superior firepower.

“Many of the bandits escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds, having been denied freedom of action.

“When troops cleared the road for traffic, it was discovered that a driver was hit by the bandits, who were fleeing the location.

“Also, two buses ran into a ditch resulting in injuries to some passengers, who were rushed to hospital by the security operatives.

“Similarly, the government was briefed that security agencies foiled a bandit attack in the early hours of today (Tuesday) along the Zaria-Funtua Road in the Giwa Local Government Area.

“Two citizens were rescued and rushed to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika. Operatives are still carrying out aggressive patrols in the general area.”

Aruwan extend government’s condolence message to the families of the victims and prayed for the repose of their souls.
