Rivers kerosene explosion kills mother, two children

A kerosene stove explosion on Tuesday killed a woman and her two little children in Aliko Estate, Choba town in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The incident, it was gathered, happened around 8am on Tuesday at a storey building in the area.

The victims were living in a room in the building.

The eyewitness alleged that the kerosene stove the deceased mother of two was using to prepare food exploded which resulted in the death of the victims.

The source said, “We heard that the father of the children and the husband of the woman left around 6am and around 8am, the fire which killed the woman and her two children started.

“The stove exploded and caused the fire inside their one room, maybe they were using adulterated kerosene.”

When contacted, the spokesman for the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident, saying, “Yes, I can confirm that incident, I am aware of it, however, the details of the incident are still sketchy, but the remains of the dead bodies have been evacuated to the mortuary by men of the Divisional Police Headquarter in that area.”
