The Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, on Tuesday approved the amnesty of 28 convicts from the various custodial centres across the state.
Mr Zubair Umar, the Chairman of Gombe State Prerogative of Mercy, and the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, said the committee screened out suspected rapists and armed robbers from the list submitted to the governor for approval.
Umar said, “The Prerogative of Mercy Council met to consider 29 applications for amnesty. The council recommended 28 for amnesty. The governor accepted the recommendation. The 28 convicts were released on Tuesday from the various custodial centres in the state.”
