Former military president General Ibrahim  Babangida (retd.) Said the country was in the hands of dictators, mediocre ethnic champions, and incompetent and visionless actors.

Babangida issued a statement when Senator Iyorcha Ayu, the national leader of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), was received at his uphill dwelling with members of the party's National Working Committee.

"If we have not properly managed the complexity of competing partisan and electoral politics since independence, we  at the current crossroads turn to  politics as a project of the public interest, following moral and ethical principles. There is a unique opportunity. The statutory provisions of Articles 13 and  14 of the Nigerian Constitution. "

Ayu said the visit seeks his blessing and benefits from the experience and wisdom of his leadership as the founder of the PDP.

"This is especially needed at this time of the year when there is so much uncertainty and division in the country," he said.

He implored the former president not to relent in ensuring that the unity of the country which he fought so hard for was sustained
