Imo Govt House policeman found dead

A police inspector, Haruna Kawura, attached to the Imo State Government House, was on Tuesday found dead in the Avana Shell Camp area of Owerri, the state capital.

He was said to have been strangled as his body had bruises, raising suspicion that he was killed.

The inspector was said to have gone out for a drink on Monday and his corpse was found strangled on the road on Tuesday morning.

When our correspondent visited the scene, residents, including policemen, were seen discussing the incident in hushed tones.

A colleague of the deceased told our correspondent that the inspector’s corpse was evacuated by an ambulance from the Government House.

A source said, “The victim’s name is Haruna Kawura. He was an inspector of police and was demobbed from the mobile police unit in the North and was posted to Imo State and later to the Imo State Government House.

“His death is strange. There were bruises on his body. He must have been strangled as there was no gunshot injury on his body.”

When contacted, the police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the death of the cop and disclosed that investigation had commenced into the incident.
